Compatibility Guide 2026

Integrations & Compatibility

ShotAI works alongside the tools you already use. Search your footage in ShotAI, then bring your selections into Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or Avid Media Composer. No plugins required, no workflow disruption.

What NLEs does ShotAI work with?

ShotAI works alongside Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, and Avid Media Composer. It operates as a standalone search companion — find your shots in ShotAI, then bring them into your timeline. Because ShotAI indexes your local media files directly, it is compatible with any non-linear editor that can import standard video formats from disk. There are no proprietary plugins to install or maintain, which means ShotAI remains compatible even as NLEs release major version updates.

How does ShotAI integrate with Adobe Premiere Pro?

Workflow: ShotAI to Premiere Pro

The workflow is straightforward: search for footage in ShotAI using natural language descriptions like "handheld shot of crowd cheering in stadium" or "close-up of hands on keyboard." Preview the results directly in ShotAI, then copy the timecode or file path. In Premiere Pro, use File > Import or the Media Browser to bring the source clip into your project. The clip arrives with full metadata intact, ready for your timeline.

  • Search in ShotAI with natural language
  • Preview and confirm the shot matches your vision
  • Copy timecode or file path to clipboard
  • Import into Premiere Pro via Media Browser or File > Import

Format Compatibility

ShotAI indexes every format that Premiere Pro can handle — ProRes, DNxHR, H.264, H.265, XAVC, RED R3D, BRAW, and more. Because ShotAI works with your original source files on disk, there is no transcoding or format conversion step. The same file you preview in ShotAI is the same file you import into Premiere Pro. This preserves full quality and eliminates any concern about generation loss or format incompatibility between tools.

Premiere Pro projects using Dynamic Link, multicam sequences, or merged clips all work seamlessly because ShotAI operates at the source media level, not the project level.

How does ShotAI integrate with DaVinci Resolve?

Workflow: ShotAI to DaVinci Resolve

Search your footage library in ShotAI, preview results at full resolution, then import matched clips into DaVinci Resolve's Media Pool. Use Resolve's Power Bins or Smart Bins to organize imported ShotAI selections. The workflow integrates naturally with Resolve's media management system — clips arrive with all original metadata, timecodes, and reel names preserved for accurate media management.

  • Works with Resolve's Media Pool and Power Bins
  • Compatible with Resolve database and project-based media management
  • Full support for Resolve Color Management workflows

Media Management

DaVinci Resolve users often maintain strict media management practices, especially in professional color grading environments. ShotAI respects this by never modifying, moving, or duplicating your source files. It creates a read-only index of your footage for search purposes only. When you find clips in ShotAI and bring them into Resolve, the media path references remain clean and consistent. This is especially important for facilities using shared storage with Resolve's collaborative workflow features.

How does ShotAI integrate with Final Cut Pro?

Native macOS Workflow

Both ShotAI and Final Cut Pro are native macOS applications optimized for Apple Silicon. This means they share the same hardware acceleration capabilities, the same media frameworks (AVFoundation, VideoToolbox), and the same file system APIs. The experience is seamless — search in ShotAI, then drag files directly to Final Cut Pro's Browser or use File > Import Media. Both applications leverage the Neural Engine and GPU for hardware-accelerated video processing.

  • Both apps optimized for Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4)
  • Shared hardware decode pipeline for ProRes and HEVC
  • Compatible with Final Cut Pro Libraries and Events structure

Apple Silicon Optimized

ShotAI leverages Apple's Neural Engine for AI inference and the Media Engine for hardware-accelerated video decode. This means the AI indexing process runs at native speed without competing for GPU resources with Final Cut Pro. You can index new footage in ShotAI while simultaneously editing in Final Cut Pro without noticeable performance degradation. The unified memory architecture of Apple Silicon ensures both applications access media files efficiently through the same memory pool.

How does ShotAI integrate with Avid Media Composer?

Enterprise Broadcast Workflow

Avid Media Composer remains the standard in broadcast news, long-form documentary, and enterprise post-production. ShotAI integrates into these workflows by indexing the same media files that Avid references — whether stored on local drives, Avid NEXIS shared storage, or third-party SANs. Search your entire media archive in ShotAI, identify the clips you need, then import or link them in Media Composer using AMA (Avid Media Access) or standard media import.

  • Handles MXF and DNxHR natively — Avid's preferred formats
  • Compatible with Avid NEXIS and shared storage environments
  • Works with AMA-linked media and consolidated Avid MediaFiles

MXF and DNxHR Support

Avid workflows rely heavily on MXF-wrapped DNxHR and DNxHD media. ShotAI fully supports indexing and searching MXF containers with any DNx codec variant. This includes media that has been consolidated into Avid MediaFiles folder structures as well as AMA-linked source media in its original container format. ShotAI reads MXF metadata including timecode tracks, reel names, and tape IDs, making it easy to cross-reference search results with your Avid bin organization.

What video formats does ShotAI support?

ShotAI supports all major professional and consumer video formats. The AI indexing engine decodes video using hardware acceleration where available (Apple Silicon Media Engine) and falls back to optimized software decode for specialized formats. Frequently Asked Questions

Does ShotAI replace my NLE?

No. ShotAI is not a video editor and does not replace Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or Avid Media Composer. ShotAI is a search and discovery tool that operates alongside your existing editing software. It helps you find the exact footage you need from large video libraries using AI-powered semantic search, then you bring those clips into your NLE of choice for editing. Think of ShotAI as the fastest way to locate shots before you start assembling your timeline.

Can ShotAI import or export timelines?

ShotAI does not import or export timeline files such as XML, AAF, or EDL. Its primary function is search and discovery. When you find a clip in ShotAI, you can copy the file path or timecode and manually import the source media into your NLE. Future updates may include direct drag-and-drop integration with popular editors, but the current workflow is optimized for fast search and preview before you bring clips into your editing timeline.

Does ShotAI work with cloud storage like Dropbox, Google Drive, or NAS?

Yes. ShotAI indexes any video file that is accessible through your local filesystem. This includes files stored on network-attached storage (NAS), mounted cloud drives like Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud Drive, or any other storage that appears as a local volume on macOS. As long as the files are available on a mounted drive, ShotAI can index and search them. Note that search performance depends on file access speed, so locally-connected drives will provide the fastest results.

What file sizes and library sizes can ShotAI handle?

ShotAI is designed to handle professional-scale video libraries. Individual files can be any size — from small proxy files to multi-gigabyte raw camera footage. Library sizes of 50TB or more with tens of thousands of clips have been tested successfully. The AI indexing process scales linearly with the number of clips, and once indexed, search results return in approximately 300 milliseconds regardless of library size. Apple Silicon hardware acceleration ensures that even 8K footage is processed efficiently during the initial indexing pass.
